Production of rose and rose oil in Bulgaria-Kazanlak has started 16th century and today the region is the biggest rose oil exporter. Around 4000 kg of fresh roses is distilled to get just 1 kg of high quality rose oil. There are two main Rose Oil types; Rose ottos are extracted through steam distillation, while rose absolutes are obtained through solvent extraction or supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, with the absolute being used more commonly in perfumery.
